Sometimes good guys don’t wear white, and sometimes punk chicks don’t wear black. Nashville’s Cybelle Elena can attest to this. A child of Seattle’s 90s grunge community, the musician, seamstress and visual artist knows firsthand the cultural mystique attached to growing up in artist communes, punk houses, and even a school bus. But there was one big problem with the grunge scene nobody ever talks about: There was no glitter. In her rock ‘n’ roll band, as in her art and wardrobe design for some of Nashville’s most fashionable artists, Cybelle takes the sights and sounds of her wide-eyed youth, and makes art that’s as fitting for The Ryman Auditorium as it is for the alley out The Ryman’s back door.
